Bespoke Dining Tables
A dining table should fit the room and the people who sit at it. We build each one to your length, width and height, from hardwood we mill and dry ourselves, and we finish it in a way that stands up to red wine and hot plates.
One table, built to one room, for one family
We don't have a catalogue of table shapes. Every table starts as a sketch of your room, your seating numbers and the way your household actually eats.
The top is joined from boards you choose, matched for grain direction and colour so the seams don't fight each other. We use recycled Messmate, Victorian ash, blackbutt and spotted gum, all dried to 8–10% moisture content before glue-up, which is why our tops don't cup in a Melbourne winter. Bases are built as either trestle, pedestal or a simple leg-and-apron frame, and every table gets a removable breadboard end or a straight-cut end, depending on the look you're after. Finishing is done in our spray booth with a hard-wax oil or a two-pack polyurethane, and we tell you honestly which one suits your household.
Book a ConsultationSized to your room, not a standard
Tables are built to the millimetre. We allow for chair pull-out, walk-through space and how the table sits relative to a doorway or window.
Timber dried and matched by us
We check moisture content on every board and match grain and colour before glue-up. Boards that don't belong together don't go in the same top.
Finish chosen for your household
Hard-wax oil for a natural, repairable feel, or two-pack polyurethane for maximum resistance to heat and spills. We'll recommend one, not just list both.
Built by people who have made their own mistakes with timber
A table that cups, twists or splits usually failed before the first cut, because the boards were too wet or mismatched. We learned that the slow way. Every top we glue up now sits for a week under weight before it goes near a sander.
- Boards are acclimatised in the workshop for a minimum of two weeks before milling
- Every base is dry-fitted to the finished top before it's disassembled for finishing
- We keep the offcuts from your table so a future repair can be colour-matched exactly
Years since we stopped buying pre-milled tops
The first table we ever built came back after two winters with a split down the middle. That client still has it, and we still build differently because of it.

From first sketch to the first dinner
Every table follows the same route through the workshop. Here's what happens at each stop.
Room sketch and sizing
Tell us the room, the doorway clearance and how many people usually sit. We work out length, width and height, and send you a scale sketch to approve.
Timber selection
You either come to the rack and pick your boards, or we send photos of three matched sets. Grain direction, colour and any defects are decided at this stage.
Milling and glue-up
Boards are jointed, thicknessed and glued into a single top. The top then rests under weight for seven days before it's touched again.
Shaping and base build
The top is flattened, cut to final size and edges shaped. The base is cut and dry-fitted underneath, then marked and set aside for finishing.
Sanding and finishing
Three passes of sanding from 80 to 240 grit, then oil or polyurethane applied in the spray booth over five separate coats, with drying time between each.
Delivery and levelling
We deliver in our own van, assemble on site if the base was disassembled, and adjust the levelling feet on your floor. You get a care sheet and a felt pad set.
